Preparing Delicious Steaks at Your Mount Dora Apartment

If you love steak, but don’t feel like going to an expensive steakhouse to eat, don’t fret! You can prepare your own delicious steak in the oven at home. Just follow these simple steps and you will have an excellent, juicy steak ready to eat in no time:

  • The first important consideration is to choose the right cut of meat. Very thin filets can easily become overcooked and dry when prepared in the oven. The ideal size to aim for is somewhere in between 1 ¼ and 1 ½ inches thick with a total weight of anywhere from 12 to 16 ounces. Also, try to look for just a little bit of fat marbling on the steak, as the extra fat will not only hold in flavor, but is indicative of a good-quality steak.
  • If you prefer, marinate your steak before putting it in the oven. You can choose any kind of marinade you like, whether you love Spanish mojo, steak sauce, olive oil, or a salt and pepper crust. Remember to let your steak sit for a few minutes, or even several hours, after you marinate to allow the meat to absorb the flavors and juices.
  • When you’re ready to start cooking, pre-heat your oven by setting it to broil. Before you broil your steak, searing it will help to create a crust and lock in the flavors of your marinade. Drop a little olive oil or vegetable oil in a cast-iron skillet and set it to medium-high heat on your stovetop. Place your marinated steak in the skillet, searing each side for 30 seconds to a minute.
  • Finally, it’s time to broil. Leave the steak inside the skillet you seared it in, place it in the oven, and cook the steak for approximately two minutes on each side. Cooking it for this duration will yield a medium-rare steak. If you like your steaks more well-done, add about a minute for each grade (i.e., 3 minutes for medium, 4 for medium-well, etc.) Also, to avoid burns, please remember to use oven mitts and long tongs to flip the steak once it is inside the oven.

Now you have a delicious steak to enjoy in the comfort of your Mount Dora apartment. To learn more about our kitchens or the other amenities we offer at Veranda Apartment Homes, contact our front office today.
