How to Develop a Relaxing Bedtime Regimen
Bedtime. For some people, it’s a relaxing and soothing time of the day, when winding down and sinking into bed for sleep is easy and peaceful. For other people, it can be a stressful time as they might not be able to fall asleep easily or might have trouble following a specific bedtime ritual to get to bed at a decent hour. Thankfully, creating a relaxing bedtime regimen does not have to be difficult.
When developing a bedtime routine, one of the first things you’ll want to decide on is your sleep schedule. What time do you need to wake up each day? From there, you can figure out the time you need to be asleep in order to get a full night of rest (preferably 7 to 8 hours). So, if you need to wake up at 6 a.m., you’ll want to be asleep between 10 p.m. to 11 p.m. Now that you know what time you need to be asleep, you can begin crafting your perfect nighttime routine, which should begin up to an hour before your bedtime. Some of the activities you can include in your bedtime regimen are:
• Drinking warm milk or herbal tea
• Reading a book or magazine
• Taking a long bubble bath or soothing shower
• Listening to calming music
Any activities that cause stimulation should be avoided. For example, you want to consider not drinking caffeine after 3 p.m., eating too late at night, or watching a movie or TV show right before bedtime.
