A Guide to Visiting Florida State Parks
A state park is one that has been established by a state to preserve a location based on its natural beauty, historical interest, and/or recreational potential. Each U.S. state has a variety of state parks, and there are currently more than 6,600 state parks in the United States.
Florida itself has 161 state parks and some of these parks are near our Veranda Apartments in Mount Dora, Florida, including:
Lake Griffin State Park
Lake Louisa State Park
Lower Wekiva River Preserve State Park
Blue Spring State Park
Hontoon Island State Park
These and other state parks charge a small admission fee per vehicle (excluding Hontoon Island, which offers free admission), and are open 365 days a year, from 8:00 a.m. until sundown. There is plenty for people to do at the parks, from boating and kayaking to picnicking and fishing to wildlife viewing and hiking. Its a fun day trip for anyone interested in exploring more of our beautiful state.
