How to Use a Neti Pot at Our Apartments in Mount Dora, FL
A neti pot is a container that is designed to rinse the nasal cavity. For those experiencing nasal allergies, sinus problems, or a cold, a neti pot can bring significant relief to clogged nasal passages, as well as relieve facial pain and pressure.
To get started, you need a neti pot, non-iodized salt, and distilled, boiled, or filtered water. Here is a step-by-step guide to using a neti pot:
First, make a saline solution inside the neti pot. Mix Ό teaspoon of non-iodized salt and 8 ounces of warm distilled, boiled, or filtered water until the salt dissolves. (Do not use unfiltered tap water. It is important for the water to be sanitized through boiling.)
Second, bend over the sink and turn your head to one side so that one ear is pointing down to the sink. Your forehead should be at chin level, or perhaps slightly higher.
Third, begin breathing through your mouth. This will close off your throat passage from the rinse, so it simply enters and exits through your nose.
Fourth, insert the spout in your upper nostril, then raise the spout of the pot and allow the rinse to enter the nasal passage. It should flow through the upper nostril and out the lower nostril. Continue pouring until half the solution is emptied.
Fifth, turn your head to the opposite side and repeat this process with the other nostril until the neti pot is emptied.
Lastly, gently blow your nose to remove any excess water.
This process can be completed up to twice a day. For those with chronic sinus conditions, it can be an ideal way to find relief from sinus pressure and pain. Of course, its advisable to consult with a doctor before trying this treatment method.
